La biodegradazione dei prodotti in Mater-Bi è certificata da Enti di Certificazione (Vincotte in Belgio; DIN Certco in Germania; Istituto Italiano Plastici in Italia) secondo gli standard internazionali (EN 13432, DIN 54900, e ISO).
La completa atossicità e biodegradabilità dei prodotti in Mater-Bi è stata certificata dall’istituto belga OWS (Organic Waste System) nell’ambito della certificazione "OK compost" e "OK biodegradabile soil" mediante prove di ecotossicologia svolte sia su organismi vegetali che animali.

Vinçotte, un istituto di certificazione con sede in Belgio, conosciuto per aver lanciato dieci anni fa il marchio “OK Compost” che individua i materiali plastici compostabili, ha istituito un programma di certificazione per identificare i prodotti che possono essere sottoposti a biodegradazione in suolo. I materiali plastici che soddisfano i requisiti richiesti possono fregiarsi del marchio ”OK Biodegradable Soil” che dimostra che il materiale è capace di biodegradarsi a temperatura ambiente.

OK Compost
Featuring this mark certifies that the product is compostable in an industrial composting unit, including the components, inks and additives used. The certification programme’s sole reference point is the harmonised standard EN 13432: 2000, which means any product featuring the OK Compost mark is in fact in accordance with the EU packaging Directive ( 94/62/EEC).
With this marking system, users are guaranteed that the certified product can be composted in an industrial composting facility. Composting means a significant reduction in the volume of organic material and the compost produced can be recovered for use in agriculture and market gardening sectors. About 50% of all household waste is currently made up of organic materials, a percentage that could well rise in the future as a result of the increasing popularity of biodegradable products.
